Tirana City Council discusses with Tirana youth in a landmark meeting

At the initiative of CRCA and Tirana Youth Leadership, a youth group from representatives of youth organizations and political parties youth forums, organized today a Hearing Session with the chairman of Tirana City Council, Mr. Aldrin Dalipi.

In this session, the first of its kind in 23 years, participated children and young people, representatives of various organizations such as CRCA, Alo 116, Tirana Youth Leadership, ACPD youth centre, BYLA, MJAFT, Albanian Volunteer Network,  'Children Today' Center, SOS Village, Youth Municipality Council, Brave New Generation and New Vision.

The session aimed to consult with young people regarding their needs and priorities, before adoption of 2014 Tirana Municipality budget.

Mr. Aldrin Dalipi in his opening speech said "We have chosen the first hearing session with young people as a step for joint actions, because the policies of City Council affect directly our lives. This session is important to recognize your needs and not only to make the institution more transparent but also to start the process of communication between us. This communication must and will be ongoing. "

During the hearing, young participants presented a series of problems, needs and demands that Tirana Municipality and the Municipal Council have to address. The documents of "Tirana Youth Manifesto" and "The Youth-Service Providers’ Action Plan” that summarize some of the concrete actions that can be taken by the Municipality of Tirana have been presented to the chairman.

After the discussions, some of the youth joint requests for the City Council were: the existence of a separate voice for young people in the next budget of the Municipality; creation of an Advisory Board for children and youth at the Tirana Municipality; allowing the attendance of City Council and committees’ meetings by interested young people; organizing periodic meetings with the City Council on issues of children and youth.
